Baroness Shriti Vadera

Born to Indian Gujarati parents in Uganda, Shriti Vadera's life has been a remarkable tapestry woven across continents and diverse sectors. Fleeing Uganda in 1972 due to the expulsion of Asians, she found a new home in the UK, where her sharp intellect blossomed at Somerville College, Oxford. Banking became her initial calling, honed within the prestigious halls of Goldman Sachs. 

But Vadera's ambition extended beyond the financial. In 1999, she heeded the call of public service, joining the Tony Blair government. Her keen understanding of business and industry soon saw her rise to the position of Minister of State for Trade and Investment, a role that thrust her into the heart of the turbulent 2008 financial crisis. With unwavering determination, she spearheaded the UK's response, her calm yet decisive leadership leaving a lasting mark on the nation's economic recovery. 

Following her illustrious governmental stint, Vadera returned to the private sector, her skills in high demand. Santander UK welcomed her as its Chair in 2015, where she steered the institution through complex and evolving landscapes. Yet, her dedication to public good remained undimmed. She championed diversity and inclusion, becoming a mentor to young women and lending her expertise to organizations like the British Asian Trust.
