Hon. Rajni Tailor
Former Buganda Finance Minister
Rajni Patel, a tailor's son with noble connections, has a remarkable life history deeply intertwined with Uganda's cultural and historical fabric. Born in 1951 in an Indian nursing home in Old Kampala, Rajni's upbringing was shaped by the challenges and successes of his father, Gowa, a respected tailor. Gowa's journey from Lira to Wobulenzi, Luwero District, reflects the resilience and determination of a young man seeking better opportunities in a new land.
Growing up in Wobulenzi, Rajni witnessed firsthand the dedication and hard work of his father, who tailored clothes for prestigious institutions like Bukalasa Agricultural College and Kawanda Research Centre. The connections Gowa established through his craftsmanship allowed Rajni to experience a world beyond his immediate surroundings, exposing him to different cultures and influential figures.
Despite facing financial constraints that led him to work in an Asian-owned shop after Junior Two, Rajni's early experiences instilled in him a strong work ethic and determination to succeed. His journey from a humble background to a successful career is a testament to the values of perseverance and hard work instilled in him by his father.
