Praful Patel, a key figure in the Ugandan Asian crisis of 1972, recently passed away at 84 in Mumbai. He was instrumental in alerting the British government to Idi Amin's plans to expel Uganda's Asian community before the plans were publicly known. Despite being a lifelong Labour party member, his cooperative efforts with the Conservative government helped forge a strong bond between Indian voters and the Conservative party.

Patel's contributions extended beyond political alerts; he played a vital role in the resettlement of 30,000 Asian refugees in the UK. His proactive involvement ensured that these refugees received necessary support upon their arrival. Remembered for his political acumen and deep compassion, Patel's legacy continues to influence community support and political relationships in both the UK and India.
