The 36th mayor of Calgary, Alberta was Naheed Kurban Nenshi (born February 2, 1972), who is a Canadian politician. With 39% of the vote, he won the 2010 municipal election and is now considered the first Muslim mayor to have served in a major city in North America. He won his second election in 2013 with 74% of the vote and was re-elected for a third term in 2017 with 51%.


Following his education at the University of Calgary, Nenshi held positions as President of the Students' Union and Master of Public Policy at Harvard University in 1998. He also worked for McKinsey & Company before founding his consulting firm 'Aspiration Group' to advise non-profit, private and public sector organizations. Additionally, the firm advised the United Nations on ways to encourage wealthy corporations to engage in Corporate Citizenship through its advisory services.


Following the office's assumption, Nenshi'll council implemented several projects to revive Calgary' livability, including capital infrastructure projects for the East Village neighborhood, which now houses the New Central Library and the National Music Centre. The city will work with the local arts community to maintain the historic King Edward School as an arts center.
